Washington Redskins give coach Jay Gruden contract extension

The Washington Redskins have agreed a "multi-year" contract extension with head coach Jay Gruden.

The Redskins announced on Monday that Gruden had agreed a renewal, with ESPN reporting over the weekend that the agreement sees two years added to his deal that is now said to run through the 2020 season.

Gruden, who is the first coach to be extended by owner Dan Snyder since he bought the team in 1999, had two years remaining on his initial five-year contract.

The 50-year-old went 21-26-1 record in his first three seasons with the Redskins, though the team has posted back-to-back winning seasons and earned an NFC East title in 2015.
