Adidas won't give John Ross island after his record 40-yard dash

Updated:

John Ross's record-setting 4.22-second time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine on Saturday should earn him an island to call his own, right?

Wrong.

The Washington wide receiver could have won his own piece of paradise from Adidas had he just followed the rules of their promotional offer.

The sportswear company announced on February 27 it would offer an island to anyone who could break Chris Johnson's 40-yard dash record of 4.24 seconds that had stood since 2008. The catch, however, was that the player had to sport Adidas shoes and agree to an endorsement deal with the company before the start of the upcoming NFL season.

Although Ross didn't win an island, he did walk away with an endorsement deal from another sportswear company. According to an official release, Ross wore Nike's new Vapor 4.2 boots after signing a deal with the company ahead of the Combine.

Ross also assumes all bragging rights until his record time is broken.
