NRL champions Cronulla Sharks have signed outside back Edrick Lee from Canberra Raiders on a two-year deal.
The Raiders agreed to release the 24-year-old from the final year of his contract just a week before the new season gets under way due to salary cap restrictions.
Lee has scored 34 tries in 70 games since joining the Raiders at the age of 18 and will vie for a place on the wing at Cronulla, with Valentine Holmes set to shift to full-back following the departure of Ben Barba.
"I'm really excited to be joining the club, I can't wait for this year and I'm grateful for the opportunity," Lee said.
"I'm looking forward to meeting all the players and staff [but] I know there's a lot of hard work that has to be done between now and round one."
Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said of his new recruit: "He's a proven finisher who gives us height and a kick target and a point of difference out on the wing.
"With the loss of Benny and with some potential changes in position for Val and others he has a great opportunity to be a part of our NRL side this season."
The Sharks lost the World Club Challenge at Wigan Warriors last Sunday and will start the defence of their NRL title against Brisbane Broncos at Southern Cross Group Stadium next Thursday.
