Jos Buttler joked that England team-mate Ben Stokes had immediately found a way to spend his new-found fortune after the all-rounder was purchased for £1.7million in the Indian Premier League auction.
Stokes and another England international, Tymal Mills, were the big winners in Monday's player draw, the former commanding the second-biggest fee in the tournament's history courtesy of the Rising Pune Supergiants. Mills was picked up for £1.4m, more than 20 times his base price, by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Following the auction, Mark Wood tweeted a photo of Durham and England colleague Stokes grinning as the duo shared a train journey.
And Buttler, who is set to represent Mumbai Indians in the IPL for a second season, was quick to offer a witty response.
