Tour de France winner Wiggins breaks leg during ski jumping TV show

He may be a five-time Olympic gold medallist, have eight world titles to his name and one Tour de France triumph but Bradley Wiggins has finally been defeated - by a reality television show.

After announcing his retirement from professional cycling in December, Wiggins signed up for The Jump - a notoriously risky winter sports programme on British television station Channel 4 - a month later.

On the opening week of the show Wiggins excelled in the parallel slalom, winning his race to cement his place for another seven days.

However, his participation in the show has been cut short after suffering a fractured leg during a training session.

Posting on Twitter, Wiggins said: "Gutted to be leaving The Jump. I wanted to give you an injury update...

"Seen a specialist, I have a small leg fracture and need to rest for 3-6 weeks. Good news no surgery or cast required.

"No horror smash, small training injury which means I can't compete. No terrible break, no cast, just need to rest it."
