Debutant Connor gives Hull FC a winning start

Jake Connor scored the winning try as Hull FC kicked off their Super League campaign with a 12-8 victory over Wakefield Trinity.

Hull debutant Connor, signed from Huddersfield Giants ahead of the 2017 season, crossed with 12 minutes remaining to bring his side from behind and secure the two points at Beaumont Legal Stadium.

In muddy conditions that made handling difficult, the teams relied largely on their kicking games - Marc Sneyd slotting three goals through the posts to give Hull a 6-2 lead at the break.

Scott Grix marked his first appearance since returning to Wakefield by latching onto a grubber kick for the first try, but the visitors fought back.

Connor brought down a cross-field kick from Sneyd to touch down the winning score, though a late rally had to be quelled.
