Upul Tharanga has replaced the dropped Dinesh Chandimal as captain for Sri Lanka's Twenty20 series against Australia and Lasith Malinga is set to make his long-awaited return.
Chandimal was omitted from the Sri Lanka side for the high-scoring fourth one-day international against South Africa this week after failing to rediscover his form.
Stand-in ODI captain Tharanga said Chandimal was in need of a rest and the wicketkeeper-batsman will get the opportunity to put his feet up after missing out on a place in the squad for a three-match T20 series in Australia.
Tharanga will lead the T20 side in the absence of Chandimal, who captained his country to a 2-1 series victory over the Proteas last month after Angelo Mathews returned home with a hamstring injury.
Mathews remains unavailable, but left-arm quick Malinga is in line for a first international appearance for a year after recovering from the dengue fever which delayed his return from a long-term knee problem.
All-rounders Milinda Siriwardana and Dasun Shanaka have also been recalled along with batsmen Chamara Kapugedera and Dilshan Munaweera.
There is no place for Dhananjaya de Silva, Thikshila de Silva, Nuwan Pradeep and Suranga Lakmal in the tour party for a series which starts at the MCG on Friday 17.
