Steve Sarkisian is leaving Alabama to become the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator, the NFC champions announced on Tuesday in a surprise move.
The veteran coach was just promoted to the same position at the college level, replacing Lane Kiffin. Sarkisian coached the national championship game, but his team ended up losing to Clemson.
Many expected the Falcons to promote from within the organization to replace Kyle Shanahan, who has joined the San Fancisco 49ers as head coach.
Sarkisian primarily has coached at the college level, with his only professional experience being as quarterbacks coach on Norv Turner's staff with the Raiders in 2004.
