Ben Ainslie has revealed the boat that he plans to use to end 166 years of British disappointment in the America's Cup.
The most decorated sailor in Olympic history, Ainslie has teamed up with British car manufacturer Land Rover to build a boat capable of securing the oldest trophy in international sport in Bermuda later this year.
Ainslie was part of Oracle Team USA's successful campaign in 2013, but is now determined to win the competition with British backing after the boat - named Rita, like his Olympic vessels - was christened.
"It's a great moment to see our race boat Rita hit the water in Bermuda," Ainslie said.
"The launch represents the sum of all the team's efforts to bring the America's Cup home, and we're delighted to get her in the water here in Bermuda.
"We're a start-up team, and we had to build not just the boat but the design and engineering team, the facilities and the processes to get to this point today.
"There are just a few short months before the racing starts at the end of May, and we will be working very hard now on the final development and testing of this boat to make sure we are ready for the racing."
The 2017 America's Cup will be held in June as Oracle defend the Cup for the second time.
Ainslie's BAR team are one of five challenging clubs set to go for the trophy. BAR will be just the second rookie team to win the Cup in the competition's history if they can pull off the win, following Switzerland's Alinghi in 2003.
