Miller backs Ryan to win Super Bowl MVP

Updated:

Last season's Super Bowl MVP Von Miller has backed Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to win the award in Sunday's season finale with the New England Patriots.

Ryan is widely expected to be named as the NFL MVP on Saturday following a campaign in which he has racked up huge numbers at the helm of the league's most prolific offense.

The Falcons scored 540 points in the regular season, with Ryan throwing for 4944 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Standing in Atlanta's way in Super Bowl LI is a Patriots defense that finished the year ranked first in the league.

But Miller - whose instrumental defensive performance in the Denver Broncos' win over the Carolina Panthers saw him named Super Bowl 50 MVP - is backing Ryan to deliver.

"I think Matt Ryan is going to be the Super Bowl MVP. I think it's his time. He could be the MVP of the National Football League and he'll win the Super Bowl MVP," Miller told Omnisport.

"I'm calling it right here. We're talking about those two guys [Brady and Peyton Manning] being the GOAT [greatest of all time]. But Matt Ryan, he has a very special game as well."

Manning, who retired after winning Super Bowl 50, remains Miller's favourite quarterback. However, he believes Brady is the best to play the position.

"He's the GOAT [Tom Brady]. He's the GOAT. You know, me and my opinion I feel like Peyton Manning is my personal favourite quarterback," Miller added.

"But Tom Brady is definitely the GOAT. After overcoming so many trials and tribulations and so much adversity and is still able to play at an elite level.

"So he's the GOAT, him and Peyton, they're the GOATs. They're the best to ever do it."
