Timber! Tree-off time at Dubai Desert Classic

Whether a professional, an amateur or a recreational player, every golfer knows that you have to mind the trees.

Well, at the Dubai Desert Classic that took on a whole new meaning for the players and spectators at the Emirates Golf Club.

Heavy winds played havoc with the second-round schedule and were so severe at one stage that several trees were uprooted around the course.

Luckily, no one was harmed, but organisers wisely suspended play for the day shortly after.

George Coetzee was on nine under par for the tournament after managing to play eight holes, with overnight leader Sergio Garcia a stroke behind.
