Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in no mood for fanfare after tying NBA record

Gregg Popovich tied an NBA record on Thursday, but the San Antonio Spurs coach was in little mood for fanfare.

Popovich chalked up his 1,127th victory as Spurs coach in Thursday's 102-86 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers.

That sees him tie Jerry Sloan for the most wins by a coach with one franchise, but when asked about the record Popovich - who has led the Spurs to five NBA titles in over 20 years in charge - played down his achievement.

"When you get all those wins, it's just a longevity thing more than anything," he said.

Popovich claimed that Sloan is "in a different league than me", but admitted he tried to model himself on the former Utah Jazz coach.

"[Utah] was then and still is a class organisation, and we tried to do it similarly to them as far as how we conducted the program, what we expected, how to do it, how to keep it to yourself and that sort of thing," Popovich added.
