Abinhav Mukund could make his first international appearance in five and a half years, after being selected in a 16-man squad for India's one-off Test against Bangladesh.
Opening batsman Mukund, who earned each of his five Test caps to date during a six-week period in 2011, has displayed consistent form in first-class cricket for Tamil Nadu.
Last weekend, the 27-year-old left-hander was picked to lead India A in next week's tour match against Bangladesh that precedes the Test in Hyderabad, starting on February 9.
And Mukund is now in contention to feature at the highest level once again, having been called up along with the fit-again quintet of fellow opener Murali Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya, Wriddhiman Saha and Jayant Yadav.
Parthiv Patel - who twice opened the batting during the recent five-Test series against England after stepping in for the injured Saha, and Manish Pandey each drop out of India's Test squad.
There is also no place for Mohammed Shami - an injured absentee for the fourth and fifth Tests against England.
India squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Abhinav Mukund, Karun Nair, Hardik Pandya, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Wriddhiman Saha, Ishant Sharma, Murali Vijay, Jayant Yadav, Umesh Yadav.
