"Be safe out there" was the warning from the Carefast/Storck Cycling Team after their manager was left clinging onto a bridge for dear life following a horrific crash in the Santa Barbara Road Race.
Mike Allec hung on to avoid a 30-foot drop after colliding with riders who were involved in an accident in front of him at high speed in the final sprint.
Allec's bike disappeared over the edge into a ravine, but he was able to avoid going the same way before being rescued.
The team posted a video of the incident on their Facebook page and expressed their relief after such a close shave for Allec.
Carefast/Storck Cycling Team stated: "This weekend at the Santa Barbara Road Race our team rider and manager Mike Allec was involved in a spectacular crash in the final sprint that left him hanging off of a bridge above a ravine [30ft below].
"We are very thankful for the outpouring support from many who were there and more importantly those that helped him off of the bridge.
"Words cannot express the gratitude for him being able to walk away from this with road rash, this could have ended much much worse.
"Thank you Peter Aquino for the video and to all of the personnel on site including local emergency crews.
"Be safe out there!"
