New Zealand wicketkeeper BJ Watling is set to be sidelined for three weeks with a sprained right knee.
Watling, 31, will miss the one-day international series against Australia starting Monday.
While a three-week absence would make him available to take on South Africa in limited-overs matches, the Black Caps said they expected him to be available for the Test series.
Watling is hoping to play in a Plunket Shield match starting February 25.
The first Test against South Africa starts in Dunedin on March 8.
