Hunt to join Dragons in 2018

Updated:

St George Illawarra Dragons have announced the signing of star Brisbane Broncos half-back Ben Hunt.

Out of contract at the end of the 2017 NRL season, the Dragons confirmed on Monday that Hunt will swap Brisbane for Illawarra next year.

Australia representative Hunt, 26, has been lured to the Dragons on a five-year deal.

"We were looking for a really competent, world-class halfback. It was about signing someone who has been a regular halfback and who has played at the highest level," director of rugby Ian Millward said in a statement.

"Ben's also a good family man and quite composed as a person. The Red V fans should be over the moon."

Hunt has played 166 NRL games since debuting for the Broncos in 2009.

"Ben's made a massive commitment to the Dragons but he also has a season to go with the Broncos," Millward added.

"It's important he has a great season with the Broncos, and it's important we have a great season with the personnel we currently have."
