Caps solve house of horrors in Dallas, Blues' problems continue

Updated:

The Washington Capitals finally beat the Dallas Stars, while the St Louis Blues lost to the Winnipeg Jets.

Washington prevailed 4-3 in overtime in NHL on Saturday, having not beaten the Stars in Dallas in almost nine years.

The Blues and their woes continued after going down 5-3 to the Jets.

Meanwhile, the New York Islanders extended their winning streak to three games after accounting for the Los Angeles Kings 4-2.

CAPS END DROUGHT

Washington had not beaten the Stars since an overtime victory at Dallas in 2008 but that all changed on Saturday.

Jay Beagle scored just 19 seconds into the extra period for the game winner.

The Stars (19-20-9) - who extended their point streak to 13 games - held a 3-1 lead after two periods, but the Capitals tied things up with goals from Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie.

FEELING THE BLUES

The Jets got a pair of goals from Bryan Little and 34 saves by goaltender Ondrej Pavelec against the slumping St Louis.

St Louis have lost three consecutive games, allowing 18 goals in the three losses as they continue to stumble down the Western Conference standings following their torrid start to the season.

The Blues have a couple of days off before heading to Pittsburgh, who have scored 19 goals in their last three outings.

LEE LIFTS ISLANDERS

Anders Lee netted two power-play goals as the Islanders stayed hot.

Jean-Francois Berube also made 34 saves.
