Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has undergone shoulder surgery, but will be ready for the start of the 2017 season, team owner Jim Irsay announced on Thursday.
Irsay posted on Twitter that Luck is recovering from "outpatient surgery" to fix an injury to his throwing shoulder that had lingered since 2015.
Despite being hampered by the problem, Luck still played in 15 games in 2016 and threw for 4,240 yards with 31 touchdowns.
The issue had previously not been considered serious, with Irsay saying in December that there was "no plan for surgery, certainly not on his throwing shoulder".
Indianapolis missed the playoffs in 2016 as they went 8-8 for the second straight year.
