Nevill suffers suspected fractured jaw after being struck by flying bat

Australia wicketkeeper Peter Nevill was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured jaw after being hit by a flying bat in Melbourne Renegades' Big Bash League win over Adelaide Strikers.

Brad Hodge swung big at a Thisara Perera delivery, but lost control of his bat, which flung into the air and struck Nevill on the cheek in a freak accident.

Nevill received treatment on the field at Adelaide Oval and appeared to have a cut under his left eye.

The BBL's Twitter account later confirmed that the 31-year-old had been taken to hospital for further assessment, with initial suggestions that he has fractured his jaw.

Renegades' victory kept their slim hopes of reaching the BBL semi-finals alive, while the Stikers can no longer make the top four.
