Sri Lanka humbled in Johannesburg as Proteas complete whitewash
South Africa completed a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in ruthless fashion, claiming 16 wickets in Johannesburg on Saturday to inflict a humiliating innings-and-118-run thrashing on the tourists.
Sri Lanka had been well beaten in each of the first two Tests, but plumbed new depths at the Wanderers with two abject batting displays.
Having resumed on 80-4 in reply to the Proteas' first-innings total of 426 all out, Angelo Mathews' men were bowled out for 131 before lunch on day three, South Africa's four-man pace attack sharing the wickets around.
And things got little better for Sri Lanka after the follow-on was enforced, as they were swiftly dismissed again, this time for 177, with Wayne Parnell taking 4-51.
