Jaguars name Marrone coach, hire Coughlin as executive
The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Doug Marrone as their new coach and will bring back Tom Coughlin as executive vice president of football operations.
Coughlin, who won two Super Bowls as the New York Giants head coach, was the first coach in Jaguars history - leading the team from 1995-2002.
The appointment of Marrone is unlikely to please Jacksonville fans.
He went 15-17 in two seasons as head coach in Buffalo, while the long-time offensive line coach was 1-1 with the Jags this season in an interim role, replacing Gus Bradley.
There was some excitement among Jacksonville fans when New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels interviewed on Saturday.
Former Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith was also a name in the mix.
Marrone has been with the team for the last two seasons, so he is at least familiar with the players.
