Pradeep makes Amla Test cricket's 10,000th lbw victim

Updated:

A notable statistical milestone was reached in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday as Nuwan Pradeep trapped Hashim Amla in front to claim the 10,000th lbw dismissal in Tests.

The tally of leg-before-wicket scalps in cricket's premier format stood at 9,999 after day two of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka at St George's Park.

And after Australia and Pakistan played a full day in Melbourne without any player falling lbw, it was Proteas batsman Amla who earned the dubious distinction of becoming victim number 10,000.

The 33-year-old looked set to record a welcome half-century as the tea interval neared, having been short of form in recent matches.

However, Pradeep then ousted Amla for 48 with the final ball of the afternoon session as the former South Africa skipper walked across his stumps to a full and straight delivery.

ESPNCricinfo revealed that a Sri Lankan bowler was also involved in the 10,000th bowled dismissal in Tests, when Nuwan Zoysa cleaned up New Zealand's Daniel Vettori in Hamilton 19 years ago.
