Australia to field unchanged XI on Boxing Day

Updated:

Australia have named an unchanged XI for the Boxing Day test against Pakistan in Melbourne, starting Monday.

Uncapped all-rounder Hilton Cartwright was in the mix to be part of the second Test at the MCG after being included in the squad following Australia's dramatic 39-run win in Brisbane.

Captain Steve Smith and Australia, however, have stuck with the same team that triumphed at the Gabba, with bowling quartet Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird and Nathan Lyon given the nod to face the tourists as Chadd Sayers missed out on a debut.

Under-fire Nic Maddinson has been given another chance to prove himself on the international stage after scores of zero, one and four since making his bow in Adelaide.

Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, meanwhile, will wait until the coin toss on Boxing Day before naming the country's XI.

Victory in the second Test would seal a series win for Australia.
