'Niiiice, Garry': Australia spinner Lyon the focus for bizarre world record attempt

A bizarre 'world record' could be set in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after more than 8,000 people signed up to shout "Nice, Garry" when Australia's Nathan Lyon bowls his third delivery of the match.

Off-spinner Lyon, whose nickname originates from him sharing a surname with former AFL star Garry Lyon, has become something of a cult figure in Australian cricket.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade is frequently heard to encourage his team-mate with cries of "Nice, Garry" when Lyon is bowling.

And this has prompted a Facebook event page to be set up, detailing a world record attempt for the "Most people yelling 'Niiice Garyyy!' [sic] after his THIRD BALL at the Boxing Day Test."

Over 10,000 people are listed as being interested in participating, while more than 8,000 have said they will figure in the unusual record attempt.

Pretty nice, hey, Garry?
