Phil Mickelson has undergone a second sports hernia operation just two months after previously going under the knife.
The five-time major champion could miss the CareerBuilder Challenge, a tournament which he is an ambassador of, next month following his latest procedure.
Mickelson has not played since finishing in a tie for eighth place at the Safeway Open in October, having being operated on following that event.
The 46-year-old's management company announced that he would be at the CareerBuilder Challenge in the Coachella Valley, California between January 18-22, but may not compete.
Mickelson was a runner-up three times last season, including at The Open after a thrilling battle with Henrik Stenson, and was part of the United States' successful Ryder Cup team.
