Chargers' Gordon ruled out with hip injury

Updated:

San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was carted off with an apparent hip injury during Sunday's game with the Carolina Panthers.

Gordon, who entered the game with 992 rushing yards, suffered the injury early in the first quarter when he attempted to recover a loose ball but was squeezed between Panthers defenders Thomas Davis and Star Lotulelei.

The Chargers declared Gordon as questionable to return before later ruling him out for the remainder of the game.

After a rookie year in which he failed to score a touchdown, Gordon has enjoyed an excellent second season, finding the endzone 12 times.
