The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not decided whether the fifth Test between India and England will be staged in Chennai.
India and the tourists are due to start the final game of the series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium between December 16 and 20, but there is uncertainty over the match following the death of state chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
A week of mourning was announced after Jayalalithaa passed away on Monday and BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke was unable to give any assurances over the fifth Test.
"No decision has yet been taken on the India versus England Test in Chennai. Sentiments are being gauged," Shirke is widely quoted as saying.
India take a 2-0 lead into the fourth Test in Mumbai, which starts on Thursday.
