Halfpenny stars as Toulon thrash 14-man Bordeaux

Toulon charged back into third place in the Top14 table with a comprehensive 37-10 win over 14-man Bordeaux Begles on Sunday.

After their surprise defeat to Castres last time out, Toulon were firing on all cylinders in round 13 as they ran in five tries to secure a bonus-point triumph.

Bryan Habana, Pierre Bernard, Liam Gill, James O'Connor and Leigh Halfpenny all touched down for Mike Ford's side, with the latter unerringly accurate as he kicked two penalties and three conversions.

Their romp to victory was helped by Luke Braid's sending off after 22 minutes for stamping on Mamuka Gorgodze's face, Bordeaux unable to compete with 14 as Toulon moved back into the play-off places.

Toulouse also picked up five points on Sunday with a well-deserved success as they scored five tries to beat Brive 30-12.

Brive had started brightly with Said Hireche scoring early but once Toulouse found their rhythm they cruised to victory.

Having led 17-5 at the break the hosts quickly extended their advantage as Gael Fickou scored his second try to make the difference 20 points.

Sevenaia Galala gave Brive late hope but, with William Whetton in the sin bin, Arthur Bonneval made the most of the numerical advantage to score the hosts' fifth try as Toulouse eased home.
