Capitals in seventh heaven against Penguins


The Washington Capitals put seven past reigning NHL Stanley Cup champions the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Nicklas Backstrom had five points as the Capitals crushed the Penguins 7-1 in Washington.

Backstrom tallied two goals and three assists for the Caps (10-4-2), who ended a run of back-to-back defeats.

T.J. Oshie also scored twice, while Dmitry Orlov, Justin Williams and Alex Ovechkin got on the scoresheet.

Phil Kessel netted for the Penguins (10-4-2), who conceded three unanswered goals in the opening period.

Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames prevailed 2-1 in overtime against the Arizona Coyotes.
