Day one washed out in Christchurch

Not a single ball was bowled as day one of the opening Test between New Zealand and touring Pakistan was abandoned due to rain in Christchurch.

Rain set in early on Thursday and never really cleared, with umpires making the decision to abandon play shortly after 16:00 (NZDT) at Hagley Oval.

Players will return on Friday half an hour earlier with play scheduled for 10:30.

The Christchurch match is one of two Tests against Pakistan, who have not lost a Test series in New Zealand since 1985.
