New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has been dropped from the 13-man Test squad for the series against Pakistan.
Guptill has gone 10 Tests without a century and was one of five players dropped for the two-Test series.
He was joined by Doug Bracewell, Jeetan Patel, Luke Ronchi and Ish Sodhi in missing out on selection.
Jeet Raval and Colin de Grandhomme were included for potential Test debuts, while Todd Astle was recalled.
"There were a number of tough calls and when naming a squad of 13 it's a challenge to make sure we get the balance right," New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said.
"Jeet has been in the picture for a while now and he benefitted from spending time in the environment during the tour of Africa. His form in recent seasons has been excellent and the opportunity for Jeet to begin his international career in familiar conditions will be important.
"Luke, Martin, Doug miss out this series, but we know that they and the others who miss out will continue to work hard on their game and get the chance to continue staking a claim in the domestic competition."
The Black Caps have been hit by injuries with Mitchell Santner, Mark Craig, Adam Milne and Mitchell McClenaghan among those sidelined.
All-rounder Corey Anderson is still working on building up his bowling work load.
The first Test begins in Christchurch on November 17.
