FedEx Cup champion McIlroy eyeing Race to Dubai glory

Rory McIlroy has his sights set on completing a FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai double, but is aware he must finish the season superbly to claim the latter prize.

A play-off victory over Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell at last month's Tour Championship saw McIlroy secure FedEx Cup glory - and a $10million bonus - for the first time.

The four-time major winner sits third in the Race to Dubai standings, behind Masters champion Danny Willett and Open winner Henrik Stenson.

Swede Stenson is the only man to have previously won the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai in the same season, three years ago, but McIlroy is focused on repeating the feat when the European Tour season draws to a close in Dubai next month.

Speaking ahead of this week's co-sanctioned WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, where a host of players including Stenson featured in an animated film hailing their 'superhero' qualities, McIlroy said: "It would be great to get the double. I'm hoping that's what going to happen."

The world number three added: "I've got three tournaments left to try and do that - I've got a lot of ground to make up as well.

"Danny's had a great season. So has Henrik, so I know what I need to do the last three weeks. I need to play well; I probably need at least one win, hopefully two, and hopefully those boys not to play as good as they have been playing.

"I know that I've got a lot to do but hopefully I can play well enough and at least give myself a chance."

McIlroy has not played competitively since the Ryder Cup and added: "I'm coming off the back of three weeks off so I'm sure there'll be a little bit of rust in there that I need to work off, but the last few times I've played I've played very well and there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to keep up that run of form this week and hopefully to the end of the season.

"I've played well here in the past and haven't quite been able to get the win - hopefully I can change that this week."
