FIFA appoints Bareman as chief women's football officer

FIFA has appointed Sarai Bareman as the organisation's first chief women's football officer.

Bareman will head up the newly created women's football division, reporting to deputy secretary general Zvonimir Boban.

Born in New Zealand, she represented Samoa at international level as a player before going on to be the national football association's chief executive.

Bareman also worked for the Oceania Football Confederation, the pinnacle of her time there being a stint as deputy secretary general.

Bareman, the only female member of FIFA's 2016 reform committee, will commence her new role on November 14.
