Wigan Warriors captain Sean O'Loughlin has lost his race to be fit for Saturday's Super League Grand Final against Warrington Wolves.
Coach Shaun Wane said on Monday that O'Loughlin had a "remote chance" of being involved at Old Trafford, but the hugely influential loose forward will sit out the showpiece fixture with a calf problem.
The news came as both teams confirmed their 19-man squads for the final.
Ben Flower returns from a two-match suspension to take his place in the Wigan squad, while long-term absentees Tony Clubb, Michael McIlorum, Lee Mossop and Dom Manfredi all miss out.
Warrington half-back Chris Sandow is included after recovering from a knee injury, while Ryan Bailey and Brad Dwyer are also recalled.
Sandow has been absent since suffering the injury in the Challenge Cup final defeat to Hull FC.
Wigan have lost the last two Grand Finals, but Wane led them to victor over Warrington in the 2013 meeting.
