India have called Karun Nair into their squad for the third Test against New Zealand after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out through injury.
Dhawan was twice struck on the left thumb by Trent Boult on day three of the second Test in Kolkata, which India won to open up an unassailable 2-0 series lead and regain the number-one ranking.
India media manager Nishant Arora was quoted by ESPNCricinfo as saying: "Shikhar has a very minor fracture on his hand. He is under observation and he has been advised 15 days' rest. So he is ruled out for the next Test match."
Nair, who made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in June, therefore joins the Test squad.
However, veteran Gautam Gambhir - who was called up ahead of the match in Kolkata when KL Rahul was ruled out - could be the man who takes Dhawan's place in the team.
The third Test takes place in Indore from October 8.
