Cotter to replace White as Montpellier head coach

Vern Cotter is to replace Jake White as head coach of Top 14 side Montpellier ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Last month it was confirmed that the New Zealander will leave his role as Scotland coach next year, with Gregor Townsend to take over in June.

Cotter, who formerly coached Clermont Auvergne between 2006 and 2014, is now set to return to France to take over the reins from White.

White, who coached South Africa to Rugby World Cup glory in 2007, led Montpellier to European Rugby Challenge Cup success last term as well as the semi-finals in Top 14.

Cotter's last stint in France saw him win the Top 14 title in 2010 and the Challenge Cup in 2007, while they were also Heineken Cup runners-up in 2013.
