Top 14 giants Toulon have signed Lions lock Andries Ferreira as a medical joker to cover for the absence of Juan Smith.
Former South Africa back row Smith was ruled out for around four months after suffering a ruptured bicep during a defeat to Brive this month.
Toulon on Monday moved to bolster their ranks by bringing in Smith's compatriot Ferreira, who caught the eye for Lions in Super Rugby this year.
The 26-year-old's arrival comes a day after the three-time European champions were beaten 41-30 by Racing 92 in a repeat of last season's Top 14 final.
Toulon are eighth in the Top 14 table, having lost three of their first five matches and face leaders Clermont Auvergne this Sunday.
