Fears are growing that San Diego Chargers receiver Keenan Allen suffered a serious knee injury in his side's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Allen, who missed eight games of last season because of a lacerated kidney, immediately grabbed for his right knee after falling to the turf while trying to make a cut in the middle of the field late in the second quarter against the Chiefs.
The Chargers officially ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
While he was bumped by the Chiefs defender, the injury was essentially non-contact and he was carted off the field, clearly distraught and with his hand over his face. It is feared Allen suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
The Chargers had high hopes for Allen after he caught 67 passes for 725 yards and four touchdowns in just half a season last year.
Thanks to two rushing touchdowns by Melvin Gordon and a receiving touchdown by Danny Woodhead, the Chargers held a 21-3 halftime lead in Kansas City.
