The horrific injury which ended this Armenian weightlifter's Olympic dream might put you off your lunch

Terrible Injury At Olympics Weightlifting

Armenian weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan has been one of the favourites for the 77kg (169lbs) lift, but a gruesome twist of fate ended his Olympic dream.

The 20-year-old crashed out of the games after suffering a horrific hyper-extension to his left elbow during his second attempt to lift 195 kilograms (430 pounds).

A word of warning, the images below are graphic.

As the reigning European champion in 77kg weightlifting, his first lift went pretty well.

But it was when he stepped up to his second, 195kg (429lbs) attempt, that it all went wrong.

Sadly for Karapetyan, the hyper-extension sustained to his left elbow ended his Olympic medal hope.

Early reports suggested the injury was a dislocated elbow rather than a broken arm.

Karapetyan was later seen being carried in to an ambulance on a stretcher on a saline drip.

Twitter users were quick to offer him their support.

Our thoughts are with you Karapetyan.
