Catalans beaten again, Cas claim sixth

Catalans Dragons missed out on the chance to regain a place in Super League's top four as their concerning run of form continued with a 32-4 defeat at Widnes Vikings on Sunday.

Laurent Frayssinous' men have ended the regular season with five straight defeats and will know improvement is required when the Super 8s phase begins on August 4.

Catalan remain fifth following their latest loss, two points behind fourth-placed St Helens, while Widnes are seventh. The Vikings ran in five tries against the Dragons, Corey Thompson, Patrick Ah Van, Joe Mellor, Aaron Heremaia and Stefan Marsh all crossing the whitewash.

Castleford Tigers secured sixth position ahead of the Super 8s, coming on strong in the final half-hour to record a 46-20 win over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, who end the regular season in eighth.

Wakefield led 20-16 with 28 minutes remaining at the Jungle. However, the Tigers then ran in 30 unanswered points.

Debutant Andre Savelio was one of seven try-scorers for Cas, while Greg Minikin ran 90 metres for one of his two touchdowns.
