Woods withdraws from The Open

Tiger Woods officially withdrew his name from The Open field on Friday.

The 14-time major champion has been out since August after undergoing two back surgeries last year.

Woods teased fans last week by saying he might be back for the season's final two majors, however he is yet to regain sufficient fitness to play.

A brief statement from the R&A read: "Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Open and is replaced by Marcus Fraser of Australia."

The Open will be played at Royal Troon Golf Club in two weeks, but the the former world number one will have to watch as he continues to rehab.

Last year, Woods struggled after coming back too soon from off-season back surgery, carding the worst round of his professional career, 85 at the Memorial Tournament.
