The Portugal-Poland game was so dull that a pitch invader was the highlight

If you taped the Portugal-Poland game and planned to watch it when you get home, don't bother.

The first half-hour promised a good contest, as Robert Lewondowski and Renato Sanches traded goals, but from then on the match dragged through an aimless kick-and-chase that had most people reaching for their phones to voice their disapproval on Twitter.

As the game lurched towards penalties the only thing that raised spirits was a fan who raced onto the pitch in the second half of extra time.

From a security point of view it was obviously a major gaff. From a bored-fan-who-wants-some-any-sort-of-entertainment-after-a-woeful-match point-of-view it was much-needed relief.

BBC broadcaster Danny Baker was pretty forthright with his opinions on Twitter after England's shock exit to Iceland and he was at it again as he vented.

It was what everyone else was thinking with Euro 2016 unlikely to go down as one of the great tournaments.

It was not all doom and gloom.

Bayern Munich were pretty chuffed with the way things went as first their striker Lewandowski scored before new signing Sanches fired in a spectacular strike.

It was Sanches' first start for his country and he reportedly elected to move to Bayern ahead of Manchester United - which Ryan Giggs kind of confirmed at half-time in the ITV studio when he said he spent a lot of last season watching him.
