When Sri Lanka were dismissed for 101 in their first innings at Chester-le-Street still 397 runs behind England, everyone assumed Alastair Cook would have to wait until the next match at Lord's to finally get his 10,000th Test run.
But the tourists dug in to make England bat again, and Cook made the most of his opportunity, quickly bringing up the much anticipated milestone by flicking the ball to the boundary off Nuwan Pradeep.
Clearly a lot of people had had their tweets ready to go for some time.
Not everyone seemed 100% prepared for the big moment, though.
The congratulations rolled in from people in the game.
Even the PM pitched in.
And of course Piers Morgan had his say as well.
And while the former journalist did sort of congratulate the England skipper, he couldn't resist the opportunity to push his relentless pro-Kevin Pietersen agenda.
You stay classy, Piers.
