Manchester United-Bournemouth fixture abandoned over 'suspect package'

Updated

Manchester United's final Barclays Premier League game of the season has been abandoned after fans were evacuated from parts of the stadium when a suspect package was found.

Two stands at Old Trafford were evacuated shortly before the match against Bournemouth was due to kick off.

At around 2.40pm an announcement was made for security personnel to invoke "operation red code" and it soon became evident fans were leaving the South Stand and Stretford End.

The North Stand and the East Stand, where the Bournemouth supporters were seated, did not appear to be affected.

Manchester United tweeted: "Kick-off is delayed at Old Trafford after a suspect package was found in the North West Quadrant. Police are inspecting, more to follow".

Bournemouth tweeted that the match had been "abandoned due to safety fears at Old Trafford".
