Keys downs Muguruza to reach final

Madison Keys kept her composure despite lengthy rain delays on Saturday, defeating Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to reach the final of the Internazionali d'Italia.

Keys broke her Spanish opponent once in the fourth game of the opening set but gave it straight back, needing a tie-break to earn a 1-0 lead amid the frustration of persistent heavy rain in Rome.

The second set was also a close affair, Keys saving the only break point she offered up and breaking Muguruza once, before winning it on her second match point to seal a 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 triumph in one hour and 38 minutes.

The world number 24 will face either top seed and fellow American Serena Williams, a three-time winner of the event, or Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the final of the WTA Premier tournament on the clay of the Foro Italico.
