5 contenders to replace Roberto Martinez at Everton

With Roberto Martinez's departure, Everton are looking for a new manager.

Here we look at who could take over at Goodison Park.

1. Martin O'Neill

The former Celtic manager has yet to sign a new contract to stay with the Republic of Ireland for the 2018 World Cup and despite qualifying for Euro 2016, this summer's tournament may be an appropriate time to make the break.

2. Frank de Boer

The Dutchman's agent has admitted De Boer would love to join a club like Everton and he has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite. He has just one year remaining on his contract at Ajax and having missed out on a fifth Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven, he may also fancy a change.

3. Manuel Pellegrini

The Chilean is stepping aside at Manchester City to allow Pep Guardiola to come in but is keen to remain in the Premier League. Everton offers him that option without even having to move house! Won the title and two League Cups with an expensively assembled City squad but money is less of an issue now at Goodison Park, with new ownership and a bumper television deal.

4. Ronald Koeman

The Dutchman has impressed at Southampton having been given the unenviable task of taking over from Mauricio Pochettino. Saints will finish above Everton for the second successive season and while Goodison Park may seem like a sideways step in that respect, the challenge of reviving an historic club may be one he would consider.

5. David Moyes

Currently out of work after unsatisfactory spells at Manchester United and Real Sociedad, the Scot knows the club well and is good friends with chairman Bill Kenwright. However, both parties may see any prospective move as a retrograde step.
