Newcastle Knights star Jarrod Mullen is set to miss up to three months due to a ruptured hamstring tendon.
Mullen, 29, suffered the injury in round eight and a meeting with a specialist on Friday confirmed he will be ruled out for 10-12 weeks.
The Knights said treatment for Mullen would be "conservative" until another appointment with the specialist.
The injury is a blow to the Knights, who are last in the NRL ladder with just one win in nine games.
The Knights' next outing is a clash against the Cronulla Sharks on May 15.
