Marler handed two-match ban for 'gypsy boy' remark

England prop Joe Marler has received a two-match ban and a £20,000 fine from World Rugby following a misconduct hearing for calling Wales' Samson Lee "gypsy boy".

Marler was initally cited for the incident after England's 25-21 Six Nations victory over Wales at Twickenham on March 12, but the competition's organisers and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) opted to take no further action.

However, World Rugby deemed his comments to have breached the laws of the game, following a misconduct hearing on Tuesday, has sentenced the Harlequins prop to a two-game suspension with a fine payable to "a suitable equity charity in the UK".

Marler, who previously apologised to Lee for his remarks, admitted the charge in its entirety and will be free to play again on April 18.

The 25-year-old has the right to appeal within seven days of notification of the full written decision.
