Manly up and running with win over Sharks

Manly Sea Eagles secured their first NRL victory under Trent Barrett as Cronulla Sharks were beaten 22-12 at Brookvale Oval on Monday.

Manly had lost their first two games of the season with Barrett at the helm, but they got up and running at the third time of asking.

The Trbojevic brothers played a key role in the Sea Eagles' victory, scoring a try apiece in the second half to complete a comeback after Cronulla led 8-6 at half-time.

Barrett must have been fearing the worst when Luke Lewis went over for an early try, with James Maloney converting and also slotting over a penalty.

But Matt Parcell reduced the deficit by crossing late in the first half and the fit-again Brett Stewart went over to put Manly in front for the first time after the interval.

Jake and Tom Trbojevic also scored tries in the second half, ensuring Valentine Holmes' score was in vain for a Sharks side that lost centre Jack Bird after he was struck by a swinging arm from Marty Taupau that saw the Manly forward placed on report.

The Sharks have only won five time in 39 matches at Brookvale Oval.
