Flyers close on wildcard, Predators win


The Philadelphia Flyers closed in on the wildcard spots in the NHL, while the Nashville Predators also had a win.

The Flyers handed the New York Islanders a fourth straight loss with a 4-1 victory on Monday.

With the win, the Flyers moved within a point of the Detroit Red Wings for the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

Goals from Nick Cousins, Brandon Manning, Sam Gagner and Claude Giroux secured the triumph.

The Islanders hold one of the wildcard places and are three points ahead of the Flyers.

The Nashville Predators have a firm grip on a wildcard in the Western Conference and beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2.

The Kings, who have already secured a play-off spot, conceded three second-period goals.

The Predators are eight points ahead of the Minnesota Wild in the wildcard race.

Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves as the New York Rangers overcame the Florida Panthers 4-2.

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie William Nylander had three points to guide his team past the Calgary Flames 5-2.
